The opportunity:

Exciting, diverse role available for an engineer, offering the chance to join a Data Center Services team and help deliver on a range of innovative schemes with an expanding market leader. The position requires detailed technical knowledge of Data Center Systems and processes with the ability to troubleshoot those elements completely, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Lead, design, develop and implement systems in a complex environment consisting in different colocation facilities and IDF/MDF locations around the world either in person or remotely.

 

You are great at:

  • Work with other departments and outside vendors to implement any hardware change required.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and serve as main point of contact for our colo’s and IDF/MDFs.
  • Install, configure, and maintain switches, servers, firewalls, and hard drives.
  • Provide solutions to complex problems on the integration of various technologies.
  • Monitor the environmental conditions of a data center to ensure they are optimum for servers, routers, and other devices.
  • Conduct inspections on power and cooling systems to ensure they are operational and efficient where you can and work effectively with users in remote locations to assist you.
  •  All work needs to be done ensuring no customer impact, or the smallest impact possible given the constraints of the implementation, to the overall production system.
  • Provide 24/7 ‘tier3’ on-call support of our areas of responsibility as required.
  • Provide documentation for all new design implementations engineered from within the group or assist in documentation for projects jointly engineered with other departments.
  • Manages tickets to meet or exceed metrics.
  • Develop and maintain site documentation in our tool Netbox.
  • Cross-Train with other Data Center personnel to ensure knowledge is held by multiple individuals.
  • Create and deploy remote access systems to make it easier for teams to remotely access their systems.
  • Resolve operational, infrastructure or hardware incidents in a data center.

 

What it takes:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent of work experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience as a Data Center engineer in a medium to large scale environment
  • Good knowledge in all aspects of Data Center installation, deployments and maintenance
  • Strong verbal and written skills in English
  • Well-developed interpersonal, presentation, and public speaking skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong team player, working in a globally dispersed team
  • Ability to effectively prioritize workload and tasks to effectively meet established deadlines
  • Ability to creatively resolve problems and/or design new solutions to existing issues
  • Analytical skills - adept at conducting tests to identify faults in server hardware and network systems
  • Ability to run cross functional meetings

 

Beneficial/preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge in DCIM software and best practices
  • Proficient knowledge in scripting
  • Knowledge of server and system security
  • Familiar with standard practices and procedures of all components within network element
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP protocols
  • Knowledge of various types of hardware (Server, storage, network, IoT) install, configure and maintenance
  • Knowledge of computer room HVAC systems, UPS’s and rack technologies
