Director, Tax Planning

Reporting to the VP, Tax Planning, the Director, Tax Planning will become a member of a highly technical global tax department on a specialized team which focuses on tax planning, tax operations, M&A due diligence, valuations, and post-M&A restructuring/integration. This role will lead the global tax planning for the Company with a focus of optimizing the long-term GAAP ETR and Non-GAAP ETR while maintaining a low cash tax rate.  

 

The Open Text Tax Department is charged with the responsibility to create value by:
 

  • Ensuring timely and accurate direct and indirect tax compliance, accounting for income taxes, and transfer pricing operations
  • Deferring cash or reducing cash taxes through tax planning and other strategic measures
  • Performing M&A due diligence, managing 3rd party valuations, and leading various legal entity restructuring and post-M&A integration activities
  • Identifying and implementing process changes to improve efficiencies across all tax areas and amongst other tax department stakeholders

 

You Are Great At

  • Managing multiple tax planning projects and related deliverables through cross-functional collaboration within a large corporate multinational environment
  • Performing thorough research to fully understand planning initiatives, evaluating alternatives and making recommendations to leadership
  • Assessing the potential for uncertain tax positions and documenting all relevant support in a clear and concise fashion
  • Building complex technical models to address proposed changing legislation while incorporating various potential internal restructuring scenarios and hypothetical M&A activities with the ability to present simplified and succinct options to leadership
  • Establishing strong relationships through effective communication with both internal personnel and external advisors

 

What It Takes

  • Bachelor’s degree required, CPA designation a plus
  • Minimum of 10+ years tax experience (2+ years in planning specific role)
  • Big 4 and/or experience with large corporate multinational public company
  • Experience in the following technical areas: Strong US domestic and international income tax, recent and proposed US legislative changes, Canadian income tax, ASC 740, FIN 48 reserve analysis, M&A and large company IP structuring
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic fast paced environment
  • Excellent leadership skills and experience with developing and mentoring staff

 

For Colorado residents, this job is expected to pay in the range of $186, 983 to $280, 475 OTE in addition to a comprehensive and competitive group benefit and healthcare plan.  Individual compensation will be determined based on skills and experience comparable to the job requirements.
