Your impact

The Cloud Services team is at the core of delivering and operating our commercial products to our customers at OpenText. You will join a team of global database reliability engineers to design, automate, build, operate, and continuously improve the database services that back our customer-facing SaaS products. You will be responsible for operating a highly available design that includes security, scalability, monitoring, upgradeability, and data backup and recovery, across non-production and production environments. You will work in a fast-paced organization while quickly learning new skills and consistently creating ways to meet service-level agreements for our global cloud services.

What The Role Offers

  • Designing, automating, building, maintaining, and continuously improving multiple database services including PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Oracle.
  • Performing routine database maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, and upgrades
  • Maintaining high availability and disaster recovery configurations to ensure database system recoverability
  • Developing and maintaining scripts, playbooks, and modules for automating routine tasks using tools like Terraform or Ansible
  • Implementing and maintaining monitoring configurations to track database health, performance, and utilization.
  • Migrating VM-based deployments to containerized solutions or managed services in AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Working closely with development and application support teams to design, build, deploy, support, and monitor new and existing deployments, including gathering requirements and documenting the solution
  • Identifying tactical and strategic opportunities to improve service health, performance, reliability, and telemetry
  • Contributing to capacity planning and management processes
  • Supporting the migration of legacy deployments to modernized design patterns
  • Supporting and responding to service requests that satisfy our OLAs
  • Supporting incident resolution process for backing services that we are responsible for
  • Interacting with third-party provider(s) who provide additional expertise and a layer of escalation support for our services
  • Building and maintaining repeatable technology design patterns
  • Creating and updating documentation such as operational procedures, change execution plans, and incident write-ups
  • Providing on-call support and working off-hours as needed to ensure database reliability and availability
  • Periodically weekly rotating shifts are necessary to ensure coverage during weekends.

 

What You Need To Succeed

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Relevant experience as a database administrator focused on PostgreSQL and some experience with MS SQL Server
  • Relevant experience working on large-scale enterprise systems and working within the Linux operating system
  • Experience in a DBRE or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) role is highly desirable
  • Extensive experience with PostgreSQL databases, including installation, configuration, and upgrading.
  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization for both PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server
  • Knowledge of high availability, disaster recovery, and replication techniques (e.g., streaming replication, logical replication, etc.)
  • Experience with database monitoring tools and techniques (e.g., pgAdmin, Prometheus, Grafana, Spotlight, SQL Server Profiler, etc.)
  • Intermediate knowledge of private and public cloud infrastructure platforms (VMware/AWS/GCP)
  • Firsthand experience with the configuration of monitoring an alerting tool such as Zabbix, Everbridge, Pager Duty, Prometheus, and/or Grafana
  • Experience with automation or CI/CD tools, such as Terraform, Ansible, and/or GitLab
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, professional services, and customer support

 

Additional Value-Added Qualifications

  • Administrative experience with MS SQL and/or Oracle databases in an enterprise environment is a plus
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their database offerings (e.g., Amazon RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL) is a plus
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus
  • Awareness an insight into industry trends (technology, methods, and tooling)
  • Experience with Run Deck or Ansible Tower
