Lead Cloud Database Administrator

This position is responsible for managing tens highly available database clusters across geographically different datacenters. Ensure availability, scalability and uptime requirements of database services are clearly understood and addressed. Evaluate progress and results of development efforts. Preserve the integrity and design of the databases to support mission-critical databases necessary for business operations. Under minimal supervision, produce deliverables in alignment with overall Transformation program demonstrating mastery skills in area of sub specialization.


Role & Responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive knowledge and acting as an escalation point for Engineering, Service Support, and Service Delivery.
  • Resolve issues & incidents within SLA.
  • Proactively work with vendors & providers on issues identified in products and chase issues until successful resolution.
  • Independently implement approved medium and large-scale projects that align towards service and departmental goals.
  • Coordinate, and manage all aspects of database implementation and participate in oncall rotation.
  • Participate in design, development and implementation of new database software solutions and strategies.
  • Own technology solution within respective area of sub expertise including overall design, key decisions, and relations with business owners.
  • Liaise with company's database suppliers for prompt rectification of any problems or emergencies.
  • Provide direction for the DBA team in support of database operations.
  • Provide guidance and support to the enterprise, act as single point of contact for DBA related issues.
  • Coordinate with systems admin, network engineering and other teams towards availability, reliability, and scalability of database environments
  • Recommend and execute modifications to database infrastructure in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  • Keep current with related technologies and releases.
  • Develop and execute test plans to check infrastructure and systems technical performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Manage the timely resolution of issues within work stream
  • Ensure adherence to corporate policies and standards to meet compliances, availability and disaster recovery, acting as an escalation point for project team members to provide issue resolution.
  • Provide guidance and support to the enterprise, act as escalation point of contact for DBA related issues.
  • Coordinate with network engineering to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of database environment to meet business demands.
  • Recommend and execute modifications to database infrastructure in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  • Keep current with related technologies and releases.
  • Document technology deployments by creating Standard Operating Procedures, training guides. Train coworkers and other members of Operations staff.



  • BE in CS/EE with minimum 8 years of experience as hands on SQL server database administrator.
  • Excellent understanding of Microsoft technologies and related product / technologies used in replications and Higher Availability.
  • Microsoft Certified Professional, DBA - MS SQL Certification is a plus (at least in past).
  • Experience in setting monitoring of databases and related technologies.
  • Experience with any of Oracle, Postgres and Hadoop database is nice to have.
  • Must have worked in services with 99.995% or more uptime/SLA.
  • Worked in services requiring 10minutes of Response Time to Incidents including experience in carrying on-call rotation pager.
  • Experience in implementing local recovery and disaster recovery
  • Must have worked on databases systems with more than 10TB size.
  • Experience with SQL server within virtual environment and migrating SQL instance from 2005 to newer version
  • Experience with performance tuning (Index usage, wait stat statistics, extended events)
  • Experience with Always on Availability groups
  • Experience with maintenance solution (Backups, Index maintenance, CHECKDB) for MsSQL
  • Proven experience in database infrastructure planning and development.
  • Hands on experience with Golden Gate, Data Guard and Oracle RAC troubleshooting.
  • Must have working experience with scripting and automation.
  • Good understanding of Database on Linux OS.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and compliances
  • Ability to conduct and direct research into IT issues and products as required.
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and a great team player.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal abilities.
