OpenText is seeking a a motivated and experienced technical manager to join our team in the Commercial Network Operations group.  The ideal candidate is a seasoned network engineer with at least 5 years of experience in a management role.  This position entails management of technical processes and staff engaging technical skill to effect operational activities. The role requires comfort and expertise equally in network engineering and management aspects. The successful candidate will provide personnel with guidance through their own technical acumen, excellent communication, understanding of enterprise system management, attention to policies required for business compliance, and orchestration of a global team. Most interesting work is executed during weekends or evenings instead of normal business hours.  Successful candidates will recognize the importance and necessity of this for the type of work we do.  Operational demands and opportunities will often take place outside a typical 9-5 workday.   Participation in a regular on call rotation is required for this role

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure staff follow established procedures, policies, and documentation requirements

• Guide teams in development, implementation, and review of network service delivery.

• Provide oversight as a primary approver of network maintenance activities.

• Offer decisiveness and structured guidance to diagnose technical problems and provide an efficient recovery of service outages.

• Proactively identify resource and equipment requirements, including vendor capacity, inventory concerns, and upgrade recommendations.

• Provide technical training and mentorship to network engineers and associated teams.

• Allocate tasks to address issues in a timely fashion while providing the team with growth opportunities and variety of work.

• Report to senior management on team status and key performance indicators.

• Evaluate team performance both on a formal annual schedule and as an ongoing, regular practice.

• Perform regular and ad hoc administrative tasks to address employee management, compliance status, procurement, asset tracking, vendor relationships, and record keeping for the Commercial Network Operations group. 

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.

Experience

Required

  • 10+ years of network administration.
  • 5+ years technical team management.
  • Real world experience employed by an Internet service provider, telecommunications carrier, or similar enterprise scale network operation.

Required

Technical

Knowledge

  • Understand and be able to explain the 7 layer OSI network reference model.
  • Understanding of Ethernet framing, forwarding, aggregation, and loop protection mechanisms.
  • Experience with deployment and maintenance of high availability mechanisms at multiple layers of the OSI network model.
  • Extensive experience with at least two of the following dynamic routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, ISIS, RIP
  • Experience with IP network security technologies including stateful firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, application proxies, and encrypted VPN.
  • Understand and have experience with distributed role-based access control systems as applied to network infrastructure
  • Knowledge and experience working with ITIL processes
