Advanced Threat Research Analyst

Webroot is widely recognized for setting the technology standard by focusing on research, development to provide best in class security solutions.  Webroot is currently hiring an Advanced Threat Research Analyst in Dublin, Ireland.  This person will be responsible for leading our advanced Threat research efforts – including reverse engineering newly discovered Threat and communicating with other areas of the organization on how best we improve our products and efficacy, thus keeping our customers safe and protected.

 

The successful candidate should be detail oriented, self-directed, highly self-motivated, have an analytical/problem solving mindset and able to balance team approach with personal initiative. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

•            Utilize proprietary tools and technologies and pattern matching skills to accurately identify emerging malware

•            Identify new malware distribution methods

•            Analyse information and develop methods of detection and removal of Malware

•            Collaborate with multiple internal engineering and cross-functional teams on technical analysis.

•            Manage multiple projects simultaneously while quickly learning a breadth of new concepts and technologies.

•            Serve as the leading point of contact to communicate and educate internal employees across all customer support locations on Webroot products.

•            Write, review and organize technical content that will be published to the Threat blog, FAQs and Knowledge base for use by both internal and external customers

•            Perform testing functions to verify defect fixes and to assist the Quality Assurance team when needed.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

•            2+ years’ experience in malware reverse engineering or equivalent experience

•            2+ years’ programming/scripting experience (eg. C, C++, C#, Perl, Java script, Python, VBScript, Powershell, etc)

•            Experience in security related forums and industry events for malware, security, digital crimes.

•            Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10 32bit & 64bit Internals:

o            - Deep understanding of the Windows Registry

o            - PE Format

o            - Processes/Thread/DLLs

o            - Windows memory model

o            - Windows Security Model - user/groups, SACL/DACL, Tokens, Desktops, etc

o            - Virtualization

o            - Hooking/Injection mechanisms

o            - Usermode/Kernel mode internal structures (plus how to interpret)

o            - Dump Analysis with WinDbg

o            - IDA Pro

o            - x86 assembly exposure

o            - Rootkit detection techniques

•            Experience of Malware – in terms of Diagnosing and Remediation.

•            Knowledge of Virtualization software (VMWare, Virtual PC/ Virtual Box, XEN, etc).
