The Opportunity

Our observability and automation organization is looking for a Team Lead with varied experience.  The ideal candidate is a seasoned Unix system administrator with at least a year of experience in a management role.  As a Team Lead, successful candidates will be expected to manage technical processes and teams utilizing technical skills to address daily operational activities.  The team is responsible for enterprise infrastructure automation and monitoring services in our commercial delivery environments.  

This role requires comfort and expertise equally in technical and management fields.  A Team Lead provides personnel with guidance through a combination of technical skills, an understanding of enterprise system management, attention to policies required for business compliance, and global team orchestration.
 

You are great at
•    Evangelize the use of Open-Source software.
•    Administration of Cloud-based monitoring tools including NewRelic and Thousand Eyes
•    Management of system automation tools including Ansible, Chef, and Puppet.
•    Scripting/Programming and the review of such work by others.
•    Production support, change control, problem, and escalation management.
•    Ensure staff follow procedures, policies, and documentation requirements.
•    Guide the team through the development, testing and implementation stages of data tool delivery.  
•    Review completed work toward process improvement.
•    Provide direction and technical expertise in planning, design, and execution of system maintenance.
•    Make quick decisions and provide structured guidance to solve technical problems and provide efficient recovery of service outages.
•    Proactively identify resource requirements, including capacity, inventory concerns, and upgrade recommendations.
•    Provide technical training to teams when required and serve as a mentor to team members.
•    Effective task allocation and performance evaluation of staff.
•    Prepare to discuss team status and present regular reports to senior management.

 

What It Takes

•    Computer science or Engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
•    AWS, GCP, Azure, or Hashicorp certifications.
•    10+ years of system administration experience. 
•    1+ years of team management experience.
•    Expertise in design, building, and support of data tooling infrastructure.
•    Monitoring tools: OBM, Zabbix, Nagios, New Relic, Thousand Eyes, etc.
•    Red Hat Enterprise Linux
•    IaC fundamentals: Terraform, Cloud Formation
•    5+ years of experience in a complex technical operations environment; directly working with monitoring tools (such as OBM, Zabbix, Nagios, Prometheus, NNMi, Network Automation, SolarWinds, SiteScope, Grafana, Icinga).
•    Fluency in at least one of Bash, Python, or Java.
