The Opportunity:

The OpenText Vertica provides a state-of-the-art Big Data Analytics platform that handles petabytes of data. It is a commercially successful, high performance, distributed database. Every industry is finding ways to benefit from data analytics. We continue to engineer our product to be flexible so that it supports all of them. Vertica is a recognized leader in analytics powering some of the world’s most data driven organizations like Uber, Wayfair, Intuit, Cerner, and more.  Our columnar, MPP, distributed database delivers unprecedented speed, petabyte scale, with analytics and machine learning functions built into the core.

The OpenText Vertica product development team is seeking a talented Lead Software Engineer to design and implement features, new APIs, and integration software for client drivers written in multiple languages. Your contributions to our product will help customers write applications to transform massive volumes of data into meaningful insights. This is an exciting area of the product, working at the intersection of customer application code and a distributed database. The products and features you create enable all users of Vertica - developers, DBA's and end users alike - to leverage the full power of the industry-leading Vertica Analytic database

You are great at:

• Leading, driving, implementing highly scalable and complex solutions
• Understanding and learning unfamiliar technologies and frameworks, concepts and design patterns and integrating them quickly while working in a fast paced, team-driven agile development environment
• Utilizing analytical skills to developing new features, as well as, enhancing existing features and troubleshooting problems.
• Leading software design/code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to company standards
• Taking ownership of features and code bases, handling multiple tasks simultaneously
• Suggesting enhancements and providing input on products and features developed by the team.
• Providing status updates to stakeholders and escalating issues when necessary

Responsibilities

• Design and implement features in the Vertica database client drivers that enable a richer and more robust client-side programming experience. Past examples include complex type support, query routing, load balancing and secure authentication.
• Design, implement and extend database client protocol APIs for a variety of languages and programming frameworks
• Collaborate with product management, QA, and documentation teams to drive the development of features from concept to product

What it takes:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of enterprise product development experience
• Skilled in algorithm design and analysis, including knowledge of data structures and design patterns
• Deep knowledge of C++, and at 4+ years of proven working experience in complex C++ projects
• Demonstrable ability to quickly understand and piece together software components to do cool stuff
• Experience in administration: AWS Lambda, Fargate, Docker, Kubernetes
• Experience with GitLab, Jenkins, CI/CD, Bitbucket Pipeline, infrastructure as code
• Experience with administering a database
• Experience in automation development and configuration management
• Have been working on projects with Python, Node.js, GoLang
• Familiarity with Python, the Go programming language and/or JavaScript
• Experience with Windows programming in Visual Studio, C# and/or .net core
