The position
You will drive the design and planning for our data management systems, balancing project delivery dates with a forward-looking strategic direction for the implementation. The hosting is in AWS with large data sets 100’s of millions of rows.
This role includes hands-on development as well as technical leadership. As part of a team, you will also oversee the implementation of designs, working with the team members to ensure all designs are scalable, extensible and maintainable going forward.
Projects grow from ideation to proof-of-concept very quickly, so the candidate should be prepared to work in a brisk-paced development environment. The candidate’s success on the team depends chiefly on their drive to understand, their desire to learn, and their ability to convert ideas into practical architecture and production technology.
Role Expectations:
- Build high performing data storage solutions that promote scalability, reliability, security, and performance
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design, implement, review and deploy new features at scale
- Identify and promote opportunities for refactoring data stores into higher performing solutions
- Develop and evangelize modern database engineering practices. Grow the technical expertise of our teams
- Collaborate effectively with various functions such as Product, Design, Business, Operations, and other Engineering teams to gain commitments on initiatives
- Possess a global mindset and develop a positive healthy environment while working internationally across cultures
- Ready to support customer issues when required.
Required Skills and Experience
- 8+ years of experience in DBE/DBA roles on highly available globally deployed systems such as MySQL, or MariaDB.
- Working Knowledge of other data stores such as Elasticsearch, Cassandra, and Redis
- At least three years of experience working in a cloud environment (preferably AWS)
- Experience automating infrastructure deployment using tools such as Terraform, Cloud Formation, Jenkins
- Monitor database performance, ability to collect and analyze information
- Large data migration experience - importing large amounts of data from different sources, database replication, archive, backup, and restore
- Slow queries tune-up, and performance improvement strategies.
- Ability to work on multiple cross-functional projects, balancing and reprioritizing competing objectives
- Knowledgeable and passionate about globally distributed software applications
- Solid understanding of the AWS/GCP ecosystems
- Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Strong understanding of software development process/Agile
For Colorado, US residents, this job is expected to pay in the range of $154,000 to $232,000 USD in addition to a comprehensive and competitive group benefit and healthcare plan. Individual compensation will be determined based on skills and experience comparable to the job requirements.
