Lead Software Engineer

The Role

We have an immediate requirement in our development teams in Mississauga, Ontario (Winston Churchill Blvd /QEW), for a Lead Software Developer with an established track record of delivering software.

 

A Lead Software Developer drives the designs for projects, balancing project delivery dates with a forward-looking strategic direction for the implementation. This role includes hands-on development as well as technical leadership.  As part of a team, you will also oversee the technical implementation of the design, working with the other team(s) members to ensure the products are built with high quality and maintainability. You should drive a project from design through execution. Have and be able to articulate/defend an informed opinion on important topics. Design and communicate it with team members and adapt to feedback to ensure that the implementation is correct. Take ownership of the feature/project and dive into it.

 

Specific Objectives and Responsibilities

 

 

Your First Six Months:

 

  • Establish relationships with the team members
  • Gain a good understanding of the OpenText/Carbonite Server backup product suite
  • Develop new features with the unit, integration and functional tests and bug fixes  
  • Work with quality assurance resources to become proficient at automated testing 
  • Participate and contribute to a collaborative agile team 

 

Six to Twelve Months and Beyond:

 

  • In-depth understanding of OpenText/Carbonite Server backup product suite.
  • Work with product management to understand requirements and propose appropriate designs 
  • Analyze and address complex issues to provide robust functionalities
  • Lead projects from a technical standpoint, communicating with other groups as needed
  • Develop a solid knowledge of continuous integration environment 
  • Propose enhancements to internal processes and application stack

A developer on the Carbonite Server Backup team must internalize the values of developing robust, testable, automated, and scalable software. The key driver for this team is to securely protect our customer’s data and all our development should reflect that goal.

  • To succeed, the successful candidate will deeply understand the product capabilities, communicate with others to fully comprehend features/project requirements and work with and listen to others to ensure designs alignments and are embraced by the team members.

 

 

Skills & Experience:

 

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Some post-graduate work may be expected.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • 7+ years software development experience with at least 3 years in a lead developer role
  • 7+ years experience with C# .Net, ASP.NET
  • 5+ years experience with developing REST API
  • 5+ years experience with MS SQL Server and SQL scripts
  • 3+ years experience with Java scripts with a focus on ReactJs and Angular 
  • 3+ Experience with Git/GitHub
  • Advanced Experience with Powershell scripts
  • Strong mindset towards achieving close to 100% code coverage with unit testing frameworks utilizing mocking packages
  • Experience with migrating .NET Framework projects to .NET Core projects is an asset
  • Experience with microservices architecture and domain driven design is an asset
  • Experience with containers and cloud computing is an asset
  • Be able to recognize/negotiate priorities with the ability to multitask
