OpenText SMBC Technical Program Manager – Carbonite Server Backup


We are seeking a Program Manager who is looking for more than just a job. The right person for us is someone who comes to work with a purpose – someone who wants to do work that matters – to themselves, their team, and their organization. We want a self-motivated, driven Program Manager who can “get it done” through positive and productive collaboration and thrives in a fast-paced environment.  This role will be responsible for currently overseeing the programs in two of the mid-market product lines of the SMB/C Data Protection area of OpenText.


As a Technical Program Manager, you will play a central role in our Development and Product organization. You will ensure that initiatives and releases are of the highest quality, are delivered on time, and include all specified features. You will also play a key role in ensuring that the product line is successfully aligned cross-functionally from a go-to-market perspective.


Specific Objectives and Responsibilities


Your First Six Months:

  • Internalize culture and values for the business.
  • Become familiar with our teams and our development processes.
  • Dig into all facets of our product suites & team members.
  • Take ownership of coordinating and running cross-team activities for the product lines.
  • Develop broad awareness of cross-team dependencies to identify potential risks/issues.
  • Manage a collection of project status, escalate issues with timelines and dependencies, communicate overall status
  • Hold your first official program review for your product line.
  • Help team members scope and investigate issues in order to make meaningful progress for each release.
  • Work across teams to prevent potential issues and to align our schedules/goals.


Six to Twelve Months and Beyond:

  • Play servant role in ensuring teams have what they need from a product definition and cross-team coordination to achieve roadmap success.
  • Identify and drive improvements in team processes and communication.
  • Manage planning of medium to long-term roadmaps for all projects within our product suite.
  • Take ownership of projects, helping drive them from start to completion
  • Ensure project/product planning aligns with acquisition business case synergies.
  • Become the “go-to” for status and visibility for product-related projects, both for Engineering and across functions.


Key Challenges to Overcome


You will collaborate closely with Engineering, QA, Product Managers, and Operations teams to work on the delivery of our products:

  • Ensure products meet release requirements.
  • Work with the product managers, dev teams, QE to ensure delivered stories can be costed and built.
  • Help team keep stories/defects updated to track progress towards sprint/release goals.
  • Assist in proactively identifying potential risks and addressing any impediments.
  • Proactively identify project dependencies and gain commitment from all involved.
  • Communicate status and risks to stakeholders.
  • Work with external partners and vendors to gather and provide feedback that impacts the team.
  • Aid the team on Scrum/Agile best practices and processes, including Daily stand-up meetings and triage of defects, and Sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.
  • Create and update cross-functional release schedules and roadmaps.
  • Work with engineering and PM peers to foster a climate of collaboration, accountability and result.
  • At times take on company critical short-term initiatives that are out of scope for standard roadmaps.
  • Prioritize workload to optimize output for company strategy and goals.

If successful, you will enable the Engineering, Product, Operations, and all Core functions of the business to focus on forward-looking strategic initiatives.

  • Facilitate prioritization, ensuring releases deliver the most critical/impactful results on time while ensuring less urgent but important work is not neglected.

  • Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment.



  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • 5+ years as owner of software programs
  • BA or BS degree in Computer Science or related field required
  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence and PM Tools
  • Integrity must be a fundamental part of your character
  • Strong track record of success in fast-paced software, Internet, or tech-enabled companies
  • Experience working for a Product based company and familiar with Product lifecycle (Product Readiness + GoToMarket coordination)
  • Basic familiarity with data security and protection (backup) nice to have
  • Strong cross-team collaboration skills with demonstrable successes.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across disciplines.
  • Flexible and adaptable to time-sensitive situations and work in a high-pressure environment
