The OpenText UK & Ireland Human Resources team has an exciting opportunity for an Employee Relations Lead. Reporting to the UK & Ireland HR Director, with a strong dotted line to the Snr Director of Employee Relations in North America, the Employee Relations Lead is a key member of the HR team within the region.


The Employee Relations Lead will be responsible for local, core employee relations activities by providing coaching, consulting, expertise and mentorship to Managers and employees on matters such as performance management, offboarding, policy management, grievance/investigations management on policy violations including harassment and discrimination, HR Legal matters, compliance, and reasonable adjustments.

The Employee Relations Lead will also provide a regional lens and adopt global training, tools, templates, processes and reference materials, or other projects in support of the Global ER Centre of Excellence function. They will be a subject matter expert in local country employment legislation and practices with a particular focus and expertise in UK predominantly as well as Irish legislation.  

The position is based in our Reading office with the option of remote working on Mondays and Fridays. This is a great opportunity for someone who already excels at ER case management or someone with an HR generalist background interested in developing their ER skills. •Own the end-to-end employee relations processes and work with the ER center of excellence, HR Business Partners and the in-house legal team to manage cases to the best outcome.   

• Be the HR contact for investigations by assembling investigation teams, gathering all relevant facts, interviewing case critical witnesses, reviewing similar cases, and using knowledge, judgment, and experience, to recommend course of action to leadership, assisting with the implementation of corrective actions and/or disciplinary procedures.

• Handle complex and emotionally charged issues with composure, addressing situations objectively and without bias.

• Mediate issues between employees to minimize workplace conflict.

•Proactively consult with managers on performance cases, assisting them with delivering feedback in an objective manner that is intended to motivate employees to improve, while also providing solid documentation for performance cases.

• Policy management including drafting new policies and/or making improvements and editing existing policies to respond to changes in the work environment or legal landscape.

• Interpret and apply applicable labour and employment laws in the UK and Ireland.

• Assist managers with diagnosing and resolving issues through questioning techniques, active listening skills and risk assessment.

• Understand and apply Company policy/procedure/best practices and applicable law while consulting, to reduce risk to the Company. Participate in global employee programs where consultation or case management may be required

• Prepare Monthly & quarterly reporting on Employee Relations matters, with an innate curiosity and ability to interpret data, making recommendations for positive change in the work environment.

• Ensure confidentiality and sensitivity in handling all aspects of private data and confidential matters across the HR team and organizationally.



Position Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree, CIPD Qualification, Employee Relations certification, or equivalent HR experience.
  • Minimum eight years Generalist HR experience with a proven interest, focus, emphasis and strength in Employee Relations.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to utilize effective listening skills to determine issues and formulate and ask appropriate follow up questions.  
  • Ability to conduct investigations in a neutral and timely manner.
  • Organized and effective at balancing multiple priorities and conflicting demands Focused on timely completion of activities without compromising quality.
  • Strong collaborator, working with teams across different areas of HR and business and comfortable working within a highly matrixed.  Consistent in keeping all relevant stakeholders informed and following escalation routes.
  • Strong ability to analyze difficult and complex situations with the confidence to recommend balanced solutions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of UK Employment Law required with additional knowledge of Ireland employment law as preferrable.
