Lead Financial Accountant

The Opportunity

The Lead Financial Accountant, reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Accounting, will be responsible for various corporate accounting, consolidation and financial analysis functions. This role will work closely with numerous cross functional teams including corporate accounting, external reporting, controllership, tax, and the global shared services center team as well as other areas of finance and the business. The Lead Financial Accountant would also be called upon to participate in special projects throughout the year and will be responsible for the following areas within the Corporate Accounting department.

 

You Are Great At

  • Preparation of monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations and related accounting for legal accruals and capital projects related to facilities, capitalized contract labour and related allocations.
  • Support external auditors during the annual audit and quarterly reviews as required.
  • Perform analytical review of period end financial statements including as part of the monthly Balance Sheet and P&L assurance review processes.
  • Support the implementation of new US GAAP pronouncements as applicable.
  • Manage Legal Entity controllership requests including:
    • Validating and booking all the controllership requests related to mergers of legal entities, legal entity hive ups, dissolutions, impairments, etc.
    • Preparation and booking of elimination journal entries and ensuring consolidated financial statements are correct after posting such journal entries
  • Assist with special projects as required including backup for other team members
  • Review account mapping and alignment to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Provide local support to the business regarding accounting & financial matters (as required)
  • Plan and Assist with the finance integration of acquired companies:
    • Assist in planning and aligning the financial close of the acquired company to Open Text requirements
    • Manage the initial financial close periods to ensure they meet Open Text requirements
    • Review financial results for alignment to the business case and for accuracy
    • Participate in the process of transitioning accounting activities to the Open Text centralized model
    • Participate in cross-functional integration meetings and assist the Controllerships group, Shared Services group and other cross-functional teams for a smooth transition
  • Identify and develop process improvements & automation opportunities to create efficiencies and remove duplication between corporate accounting and external reporting functions.

 

What It Takes

  • Finance degree (CA, CPA, CGA, CMA, or equivalent)
  • 3-5+ years in related finance roles and accounting experience in a technology environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
  • Proficient with SAP would be an asset
  • Detail oriented, organized and strong analytical skills
  • Proven ability to perform under tight timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP
  • Project Accounting experience related to IT projects including internal labor capitalization would be an asset
  • Capable of working independently, multi-tasking to establish priorities, and completing objectives without supervision in a fast-paced environment
