Principal Software Engineer – Cloud Foundry Engineer (Salary: $130K - $150K)

Mission

You will help OpenText Cloud Operations get to the next level of Cloud Automation, primarily focusing on our cloud platforms across our diverse product line through good communication with your team, with your manager, and your peers.  You will have the opportunity to define the technologies to be used, how products can be built including containerization, and finally build the underlying platforms supporting products and services.

This job requires you be able to work autonomously, in collaboration with other engineers in Operations as well as Engineering, IT, and Customer Service, and at the direction of the Manager of PaaS Engineering.  Because your work will have visibility by architects, department directors and upper management, frequent communication with your managers and others concerning projects and issues is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Promote technical vision in concert with product engineering for VM and containerized product development, deployment, and operationalization
  • Drive a metrics-driven culture and software delivery process using data to measure overall system quality
  • Collaborate in the planning phase of any new or modified business operation that employs the use of components in your domain of responsibility
  • Establish/maintain security guidelines, practices, and departmental procedures
  • Establish/maintain effective customer points of contact (development, infrastructure, teammates) for collaboration and troubleshooting projects related to existing technical issues
  • Help review VM & container platform policies and procedures for the company
  • Provide support, improve, and implement internal infrastructure as code and applications on top of various platforms. Troubleshoot and triage issues as they arise.
  • Work closely with various teams across the organization, including the security team, development team, and operations team for requests for assistance
  • Execute with minimal technical supervision, embrace reliability constraints, and be proactive in contributing improvements to the code base
  • Make recommendations for cost saving options and growth

Competencies

  • Has expert knowledge of highly distributed system, Linux operational system, structured, non-structured and distributed data platforms, and experience with running server orchestration solutions in production including Cloud Foundry and Kubernetes
  • Has a deep knowledge and multiple year working experience in minimum two backend data services including Kafka, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, Redis, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Zookeeper
  • Has first-hand experience in developing service brokers for multiple backend data services for supporting a large Cloud Foundry implementation in production
  • Strong understanding of security concepts, best practices and how to apply them, such as SSH, public key encryption, access credentials, certificates and its management, TLS, data encryption, and experience externalizing system configuration and properties, securely encrypting connection parameters
  • Expert ability to code in Java, and understand the open service broker, such as, spring cloud open service broker
  • Ability to perform one of programming, such as, Golang, Python for system engineering, and able to write in Bash Shell script for supporting various system installation and configuration
  • Comprehensive DevOps skills including experience with source control using git, artifact, orchestration, configuration, and secret management in concert with CI/CD pipelines
  • Infrastructure & application monitoring experience, such as Zabbix, New Relic APM and infrastructure and data service monitoring
  • Has strong analytical skills as applied to information technology, and can work independently of others in an assignment
  • Has a good understanding of system hardware, storage subsystems, and networking and common data protocols and APIs
  • Can work directly with project managers, infrastructure engineers and software developers
  • Raises awareness on issues that can negatively impact delivering on time and to set specifications
  • Has a desire to keep current with knowledge of technologies, learning new technologies, mastering them, and distributing that knowledge to teammates
  • Can speak honestly, openly, and tactfully with both managers and teammates as a collaborator.
  • Strong experience with identifying and remediating security vulnerabilities
  • Knowledge of public cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience delivering projects via Agile methodologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Job Requirements

  • Required to abide by company policies and adhere to compliance and security of company information, client data and personnel security.

Skills & Experience

  • 10-12+ years experience as a software developer that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position
  • Extensive experience in an iterative development environment and CI/CD practices is a must
  • Experience with K8s and building and managing microservices-based systems a plus
