Senior Sourcing Manager - Procurement

The Opportunity


The Global Sourcing and Contract Management (GSCM) team creates value from OpenText’s supplier relationships and ensures our business unit stakeholders have the goods and services needed to succeed.


Reporting to the Sr Director, GSCM, the Senior Sourcing Manager will play a key role in managing a complex portfolio of spend. You will provide leadership to the team as well as influence category strategies to address internal business needs. Key accountabilities include stakeholder relationship management; developing and executing sourcing strategies and programs aligning with strategic objectives; enhancing supplier relationships; ensuring commitments are fulfilled to meet internal client’s needs; presenting recommendations to and collaborating with senior management and business unit executives.


You will lead a cross functional team to deliver projects in all aspects of the sourcing process, from category assessment, cost savings opportunities, vendor due diligence, RFx process, contract negotiations, and vendor management. Categories in scope will include but are not limited to IT, Marketing, Corporate Services etc.


You will act as a change agent as part of our broader Sourcing & Procurement Transformation initiative and collaborate closely with various business partners across the stakeholder groups for their Sourcing needs including Finance and Legal.


In this position, you will get a broad understanding of OpenText’s overall business and will provide great visibility and understanding across the organization.


You are great at


  • Building and enhancing relationships with key stakeholders to meet their requirements
  • Developing and implementing category management plans and sourcing strategies to create value and increase supplier performance.
  • Providing expertise and guidance to business stakeholders from a sourcing perspective to support and facilitate informed decision making.
  • Ensuring all sourcing initiatives include requirements globally to maximize OpenText’s purchasing power and leverage.
  • Leading planning & execution of the RFx process.
  • Leading cross-functional teams through major sourcing initiatives.
  • Developing rigorous, fact-based analyses that drives creative problem solving, proposal assessment and negotiation
  • Managing the supplier selection process and providing analytics to ensure informed decisions.
  • Leading commercial negotiations and delivering results that help create exceptional value to the organization
  • Managing and optimizing supplier performance, including contract compliance, continuous improvements, innovation, and reducing the total cost of ownership.
  • Leading and driving continuous improvement within the Sourcing & Procurement Organization
  • Participating in financial planning and budget development and execution, detailing expected sourcing activity and results for assigned categories.
  • Supporting the identification of acquisition and post-merger contract synergies.
  • Benchmarking and identifying key industry trends, which impact the assigned spend categories.
  • Developing a network of both internal and external peer relationships and affiliation to related professional organizations.
  • Maintaining sound knowledge of industry dynamics, supplier business and pricing models within the category.

  • Category Management and Sourcing experience, including deep understanding of Strategic Sourcing best practices, creation and execution of category sourcing strategies and plans
  • Recognized as having broad or advanced knowledge related to in-scope categories.
  • Detail oriented without losing sight of the big picture
  • Ability to prioritize and work in a fast paced continually evolving environment
  • Ability to maintain perspective and confidence in face of difficult contract negotiations, tight deadlines and client expectations
  • Ability to work under limited supervision, exercise independent judgment and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Spirited team player with the ability to work as a positive role model and catalyst for change
  • Ability to foster and motivate cross functional team engagement when leading and negotiating major transactions
  • Strong negotiation and influencing abilities
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and thinking outside the box
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint, knowledge of accounting/workflow/ procure to pay systems
  • Post-merger and acquisition integration experience considered an asset



  • Minimum 10 years of Strategic Sourcing and Category Management experience, previous program or project management experience as well as strong knowledge of business processes, internal controls, and improvement initiatives.
  • Bachelor degree in Business/Commerce, MBA, LLB, Engineering or Supply Chain management preferred
  • Professional designation in Supply Chain Management an asset (PMAC SCMP / CPP, ISM or equivalent)
  • Willingness to complete these designations as a part of your career development
  • Global mindset required, global experience preferred
