The Opportunity: 
As an SAP Sybase ASE DBA Team Leader, you are largely responsible for providing operational database services to the organization. Your responsibilities include owning, tracking, and resolving database related incidents and requests, fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within SLAs, reviewing service-related reports (e.g: database backups, maintenance, monitoring performance) on a daily basis to ensure service-related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs, responding to database related alerts and escalations as well as engineering strategic solutions to recurring problems. As a Team Leader, you are responsible for providing direction to three other Sybase DBAs on current and future initiatives, providing mentorship, ensuring adequate coverage by managing the on-call and vacation schedules, and ensuring that all DBAs receive training to be current in the latest Sybase technologies.
You have a very high level of detail, a service-oriented mentality, a high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, and a focus on managing and resolving issues 24/7. The ability to architect and deploy new system implementations as well as support older technology is essential to your role.  Experience across multiple RDBMS vendors is highly desired including Oracle 11g/12c, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.  Must be willing to learn and support different RDBMS as needed.  Formal training will be supplied if needed.

•    Perform complex level work which requires broad technical knowledge, training, and understanding, combined with creative and independent thinking and conceptual ability to relate work performed with technical business context.
•    Able to recover 100% of the databases when problems arise by identifying, addressing, and correcting key aspects of a problem and addressing them at an early state by determining the best technical resolution.
•    Own performance of all database queries and internal database performance.
•    Understand data locking concepts and the different levels of locking in MySQL.
•    Strong systems administration and automation skills
•    Strong command of your favorite scripting and/or programming language.
•    Excellent analytical and communication skills
•    Perform routine, periodic, and proactive maintenance.
•    Install, configure, and maintain Sybase ASE and Sybase Repserver replication worldwide.
•    Perform on-call support functions for their appropriate application or system.
•    Apply skills and innovation and act as a technical resource to the local community in order to lead efforts to improve the effectiveness of internal systems, revenue streams, and customer satisfaction.
•    Being the subject matter expert in regard to all aspects of Database design.
•    Supporting and writing database code and scripting language.
•    Work directly with Product Development staff to address database issues related to application designs.
•    Qualify new RDBMS releases and support upgrades through all environments.


What It Takes:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences or related degree.
•    Minimum of 10+ years of related Database experience. Equivalent work-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
•    Expert knowledge of SAP Sybase ASE 12.5, 15.7, and ASE 16.x.
•    Expert knowledge of SAP Sybase Replication Server 15.7, and ASE 16.x.
•    Significant general system administration skills in Linux environments with an emphasis on RedHat Linux. 
•    Proficient in writing shell scripts as well as knowledge in general systems administration tasks.
•    Extensive experience in database and query tuning.
•    Prior leadership role managing a team of Sybase DBAs.
•    Experience in providing support for 24x7 production environments.
•    In-depth knowledge in Sybase Replication Server implementations such as MSA. 
•    Ability to diagnose and fix Sybase Replication issues.
•    Highly experienced in multi-Gigabyte, high transactional databases.
•    Experience in Database optimization and developing stored procedures, Triggers, Cursors, Joins, Views, Cursors, and SQL.
•    Experience with designing Sybase ASE backup and recovery techniques including RTO/RPO.
•    Experienced in designing, developing, testing, and rolling out of complex enterprise applications to completion in terms of Database. 
•    Experienced using Sybase ASE on VMware.
•    Good analytical, problem-solving skills, verbal, and written communication skills.
•    Expertise in technical documentation such as a project plan, development strategy, user manual, test, and implementation strategy.
