The opportunity:
The Mainframe Modernization Solution Architect is a core member of the OpenText Application Modernization (AMC) sales team, working together to identify and develop revenue opportunities within the OpenText customer and prospect base in the area of mainframe modernization. This profile will need to have a very good understanding and experience level of IBM z Systems architecture and concepts to be able to analyse complex customer requirements, establish patterns and practices, and to provide a compelling, unique value proposition to our customers for their digital transformation journey from mainframe into to cloud.
Geographically, the focus will be on opportunities within the DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) region, with opportunities to become involved in pre-sales activities across Europe.
You are great at:
- Working directly with Account Executives in the field to communicate OT value propositions to the customer/prospects.
- Understanding customer business pains and propose the required business solution.
- Applying both business skills and technical to solve problems within an account and subsequently architecting an appropriate technical solution to meet the customer’s business requirements.
- Presenting to senior level business and technical users within a customer account.
- Qualifying opportunities at key milestones, taking into consideration the competitive landscape, solution fit, relationship with the customer, etc.
- Developing and delivering technical content composition: blogs, white papers, public demonstrations to a business and technical audience and proof of concepts against specific customer requirements.
- Proactively engaging in continuous self-learning. Both deeper into single technology and across other technologies.
What it takes:
- Hands-on technical experience with IBM z Systems technologies and languages such as COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, DB2 for z/OS, Assembler, REXX, data formats.
- Deep level understanding of modern technologies and languages such as Java, Linux, virtualized platforms, Java Application Server and relational databases.
- Experience in designing/architecting distributed and Cloud environments (target environments) – including OpenShift, Kubernetes, and Containers.
- Familiarity with agile engineering practices like Test Automation, Test-Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD), DevOps, and Test Data Management, etc.

- Problem Solving Approach: Approaches problems in a rational, fact-based manner using analysis and structured problem-solving tools that ensure comprehensive understanding and effective resolution.
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in a software solution selling/value-based selling environment.
- Fluent in written and verbal English. Other EMEA languages preferred.
