The Opportunity:

The role Cloud Application Engineer is to build & Support solutions to enhance availability, performance and stability of OpenText services as well as automating away repetitive work. You'll also respond to pings, pages and alerts to investigate issues in our products that you can really sink your teeth into. You'll be working on non-production and production environments, monitoring, data collection and configuration management, as well as disaster recovery planning, capacity engineering, reliability improvement initiatives and platform automation.  Your mission will be to use cutting edge technology for monitoring and maintaining the day to day operations of the entire production infrastructure for OpenText Discovery on our AWS platform.  The best person for this role is someone that has a collaborative spirit - in our world, it’s not about being a hero and having all the answers, it’s about sometimes saying "I don't know" and working on finding solutions rather than starting with an assumption. The team needs someone who can ask questions, learn from others and turn chaos into order.


This role would be a great fit for someone with creative and innovative problem-solving skills. You will develop and implement solutions that operate at scale. Our teams are empowered and expected to improve our products to truly deliver a reliable experience to customers.


This role is currently focusing on our Operations Center covering all our solutions by monitoring, taking proactive actions based on prescribed event action plans, and working with deployments and other maintenance activities.  The role will lead into additional levels of the Cloud Application Engineer doing problem solving and trouble shooting of the various solutions.


You are great at:


  • Take ownership and accountability for the incident resolution process and SLAs.
  • Responsible for infrastructure setup, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery, deployment, monitoring, maintenance and operations across multiple environments.
  • Plan and perform on-going application enhancement and maintenance.
  • Act as a technical liaison with other teams to evaluate and report bugs.
  • Create and maintain monitoring and alerting solutions to ensure that unexpected issues are promptly identified and escalated.
  • Responsible for problem management process and to identify the root cause of issues.


What it takes:

  • Knowledge of Linux.
  • Knowledge of Java applications and how to support them.
  • Knowledge of Monitoring (APM + Synthetic), Examples: New Relic, Dynatrace, Nagios/Check_mk or Zabbix.


Good to have: (One of the technologies in addition to Required skills).

  • Knowledge of middleware/webserver, preferably: Tomcat, Apache, JBOSS, Resin, webMethods (in the order of listing).
  • Knowledge of Java applications and how to support them.
  • Knowledge of Scripting in Shell, Perl, etc... (at least proficiency in one).
  • Knowledge of tools like ELK or Splunk used for centralized logging.

Additional Qualification:

  • We are looking for someone with 2-3 years of experience (or the ability to show that level of expertise)
  • Someone that is motivated and a self-starter
  • Strong Work Ethic
  • Knowledge of EDI a plus
