THE OPPORTUNITY:

 

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of payroll for entities within Open Text.  The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for payroll tasks for our US employees, including the data input, related audits/edits of that data, relevant reporting, and interacting with other payroll team members.  This position is accountable for providing a high level of customer service to all Payroll stakeholders, including but not limited to employees, Human Resources, Finance, and other Payroll team members with a focus on confidentiality. This position requires strong interpersonal skills and initiative as well as excellent working knowledge of payroll practices.

 

YOU'RE GREAT AT:

 

• Ensure process payments to US employees are within strict deadlines.

• Operating within a Managed Services delivery model with ADP, liaise with Payroll provider (ADP GlobalView), Human Resources, Variable Compensation and Finance throughout the pay process.

• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

• Audit the information that interfaces from the HR system for accuracy.

• Verification and reconciliation of each payroll run and resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.

• Ensure that all necessary government filings and remittances relative to payroll are made in a timely manner including but not limited to garnishments, tax slips and taxes.

• Calculation of manual cheques when required.

• Complete Year-End Process and file all applicable tax year-end filings.

• Identify and process taxable benefits.

• Deal with requests and correspondence promptly and efficiently.

• Assist employees with payroll requests and questions in a timely manner.

• Administration of Employee Share Purchase Plan (ESPP) and Stock Options as related to payroll.

• Applicable year-end reporting of ESPP and Stock Options.

• Pension remittances and reporting.

• Provide Finance with GL details and assist in reconciliations and research.

• Stay abreast of legislative changes and compliance issues.

 

WHAT IT TAKES:

 

• Experience in the following software packages:

• Outsourced payroll packages - ADP Globalview required.

• SAP SuccessFactors HCM

• Microsoft Office

• Excellent time management skills

• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills

• Detailed oriented

• Minimum of 2-3+ years’ experience in US Payroll, with an international company with multiple legal entities (e.g. US entities operating in a number of US states/local jurisdictions) *Canadian experience a plus

• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and as a co-operative team member

• Organized with an ability to balance multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while working towards strict deadlines

• Strong issue resolution skills

• Excellent written and oral communication skills (English). Additional language would be an asset

• Proactive with the ability to take initiative

• Can work independently or as a co-operative team member

• Maintains confidentiality

• Second Language skill considered an asset

• Profession certification FPC/PCP with the US Payroll Association is a strong reference.

PCP/PLP Canadian certification a plus
