Manager, Compensation

The Opportunity 


As a member of the Global Compensation team the Manager, Compensation provides internal consulting and compensation program support to the HRBP’s, business leaders, and line managers.  Focusing on customer service in a multi-task environment creates and implements compensation specific policies across all levels of the organization. Manage the analysis and preparation of information used to diagnose and manage compensation related issues, while keeping apprised on key economic and labor market circumstances. Provide expertise, strong coaching and facilitation skills to HR and provide the tools and lessons required to serve the needs of the businesses they support. 


You Are Great At 


  • Planning and implementation of new or revised compensation programs and policies for the purpose of attracting, motivating, and retaining a caliber of work force consistent with corporate objectives.
  • Program management of global employee Recognition portfolio including OpenText Voyagers (Recognition & Years of Service awards) and the CEO quarterly Excellence Awards
  • Leading compensation reviews to ensure compliance with pay equity legislation. This includes understanding global compliance requirements as well as liaising with internal stakeholders (Legal, Payroll, HR). Presenting results & recommendations of pay equity & compliance reviews to Sr. HR leadership
  • Manage the participation in global salary surveys to ensure that internal compensation remains competitive to attract, retain, and motivate employees; the position will interpret and analyze the data nd analyze results for compensation planning and budgeting.
  • In partnership with the Director, Compensation, manage the annual and mid year compensation planning cycles
  • Compensation support for mergers & acquisitions (due diligence activities)
  • Providing back up support on Executive compensation reviews and quarterly board preparation materials
  • Review current job evaluation tools and methodologies and determine where to make improvements.
  • Review and prepare policies and procedures to ensure equitable and competitive employee compensation.
  • Maintain awareness of economic and pay practice trends within the industry, preparing proposals and action plans based on findings
  • Project and ad-hoc work as assigned


What It Takes


  • A minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a compensation related position, preferably in the software/high-tech industry.
  • Previous experience in a people leadership role either with direct or indirect management responsibility of analyst level roles.
  • Ability to make recommendations based on the interpretation of quantitative analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact across all functions within the company globally and to effectively develop working relationships with individuals at all levels. 
  • Requires an understanding of effective business operations and strategy.
  • Strategic partner within Human Resources and other outside functions.
  • Work collaboratively with these groups to problem solve, test, implement and communicate changes to compensation systems and processes and policies to be in compliance.
  • Demonstrated analytical, statistical, critical thinking, negotiation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand, resolve, influence, consult and explain complex compensation issues.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, including demonstrated presentation skills are required.
  • Must work well in a team environment and independently as well as must be able to work cross functionally with multiple departments
  • The position requires a Bachelor’s degree, College diploma or equivalent experience. Ideally the candidate should have completed or be enrolled in a program leading to a Compensation (CCP) and/or Human Resources designation (CHRP).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Experience with compensation design, administration and pay equity
  • Detail oriented with a passion for complex analytics
  • Organized with an ability to balance multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Significant experience using Excel spreadsheets
  • Experience with HR Information Systems such as Success Factors is an asset.
  • High-Tech industry and global experience are definite assets.
