The Opportunity

 

The Financial Controller will be responsible the controllership functions for Open Text’s Canadian parent company and the Canadian subsidiaries. The Controller will be an integral part of the accounting cycle, providing support to the Global Finance team, assisting in accounting and financial reporting activities, as well as for the specific requirements for the companies under management. 

 

You Are Great At 

 

•    Responsible for the US GAAP close:
o    Perform and document analytical review of period end financial results.
o    Respond to monthly questions from senior management on the balance sheet and P&L review.
o    Review account reconciliations and promote best practices with Shared Services to ensure proper accounting and controls are in place.

•    Responsible for general Controllership requirements:
o    Support the tax group in the preparation of the annual tax return
o    Provide support material for tax compliance requirements
o    Provide support for period end tax kits / tax MRPs
o    Assist with commodity and income tax audits
o    Liaison with Business Finance regarding finance matters pertaining to the subsidiaries

•    Responsible for Canadian HST and GST requirements:
o    Review and approval of tax returns
o    Provides guidance to operational teams in the application of GST/HST
o    Manage GST/HST audits

•    Provides local support to the business for various matters as they arise:
o    Assists the business in addressing finance matters
o    Provides general support and information to the business as requested

•    Provides support for acquisitions and manage the subsidiary life-cycle:
o    Participate in managing acquired entity accounting activities prior to integration
o    Participate in post-acquisition integration activities
o    Manage merger and dissolution activity for certain existing or acquired subsidiaries

•    Provide support in a number of finance related areas:
o    Business valuations
o    Intercompany charges
o    Subsidiary liquidity planning and management

 

What It Takes 

 

•    8+ years of experience in a finance leadership role, preferably in a technology company
•    Finance degree (CPA, or equivalent)
•    Experience with general Controllership requirements
•    Good knowledge of U.S. GAAP and IFRS reporting
•    Knowledge of Canadian GST/HST regulations
•    Strong collaboration and organizational skills
•    Must be meticulous and detail oriented
•    Capable of working independently, multi-tasking to establish priorities, and completing objectives without supervision in a fast paced environment
•    Advanced Excel skills
•    Knowledge of SAP is an asset
