Senior Manager, Tax - Canadian/LATAM

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Director, Americas Tax, the Senior Manager, Canadian/LATAM Tax will become part of a growing tax department, responsible for regional corporate tax compliance , income tax accounting, and tax audit management. As a part of the global tax team, this position will play an integral role in the development and growth of the department and in achieving Open Text’s objectives regarding tax planning, analysis and compliance.

The Open Text Tax Department is charged with the responsibility to create value by;

  • Deferring cash or reducing cash taxes
  • Ensuring timely and accurate tax compliance and accounting
  • Manage and balance tax risks


You Are Great At

  • Manage a team of five professionals, working closely with the broader global tax team  
  • Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual regional income tax provision reporting in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Manage SOX compliance processes ensure appropriate internal controls are in place for region
  • Oversee and review the preparation of income tax returns and related compliance for all Canadian legal entities
  • Manage all Canadian tax audits and liaise with external tax auditors.
  • Research and document significant tax positions, income tax accounting methods and tax processes
  • Keep up-to-date on regional tax law changes and their impact on the organization
  • Identify, advise and manage specific matters, including tax minimization opportunities that impact the Canadian group of companies and the liquidation, merger or sale of group companies.
  • Manage the preparation of regional forecasted operating income and cash tax payments for inclusion in the quarterly and annual forecasts of consolidated income tax provision and operating cash flow 
  • Management and oversight of the R&D Incentives team
  • Work extensively and build relationships with other departments and liaise with external tax counsels and external auditors as necessary
  • Support and provide tax analysis for tax planning initiatives and special projects relevant to the region as requested 
  • Support and lead in various process improvements through use of technology and innovation, which help the team to eliminate repetitive tasks, increase productivity and drive quality deliverables


What It Takes

  • 6+ years of global tax accounting experience either in practice or industry.
  • This position requires a CPA designation and the completion of CICA In-Depth I, II & III or international equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Strong track record of building and maintaining strong cross functional relationships
  • Ability to identify issues and opportunities and call upon organizational resources to develop solutions
  • Solid knowledge of ASC 740, Canadian corporate income tax principles and purchase price accounting
  • Knowledge of Longview, SAP, and BPC reporting tools will be considered an asset
  • Detail-oriented | Strong problem-solving skills
