Using GenAI in the hiring process
At OpenText, innovation is at the core of everything we do - and that includes how candidates engage with us during the hiring process. We recognize that Generative AI (GenAI) can be a helpful resource, but we also value authenticity and want to hear your unique voice. To support responsible use of GenAI in your application, we've shared a few best practices and approved uses below.

Responsible use of GenAI

At OpenText, we understand that Generative AI (GenAI) can serve as a helpful tool in the application process. When used ethically and thoughtfully, AI can enhance your ability to communicate clearly and professionally. Examples of acceptable GenAI use include:
- Enhancing your writing skills. You can begin by writing your own content, then use GenAI to refine structure, improve clarity, and polish your language.
- Grammar and tone review. AI can help ensure your responses sound professional, friendly and well-organized.
- Formatting guidance. You can ask AI for suggestions on how to organize a CV or cover letter. However, the content must reflect your real experiences and skills.
- Ensuring consistency. GenAI can assist in aligning tone and messaging across your resume, cover letter and application materials.
Privacy reminder: Always remove personal details (example, your name and location) before inputting information into a GenAI tool to protect your privacy and data.
Using GenAI to prepare for interviews is acceptable if it supports, rather than replaces, your effort. Helpful ways to use GenAI during interview prep include:
- Researching company information, industry insights, or the tech career landscape
- Practicing responses to common behavioral or technical questions to build confidence.
- Learning about interview formats, structures, and expectations.
- Gaining familiarity with types of questions in technical or psychometric assessments.
You're encouraged to research and familiarize yourself with the types of assessments you may encounter during the hiring process. Understanding common formats such as coding challenges or case studies can help you prepare effectively. However, when completing the actual assessment, all responses must reflect your own knowledge and capabilities.
A sense of mutual respect and mindfulness permeates our culture-in fact, it’s the key to our success.

We want to hear from you - your experiences, your accomplishments, your voice. Misusing GenAI removes the authenticity we value in candidates. Please do not:

- Submit AI-generated content that includes made-up experiences or qualifications.
- Rely on copy-pasting content straight from AI tools without personalization. It's usually generic and doesn't reflect your unique strengths.
- Use AI to craft answers that you wouldn't be able to explain or elaborate on in conversation.

Final thoughts
We see GenAI as a supportive tool, one that can help you organize your ideas, polish your writing, and feel more prepared. But the most impactful applications come from you - your own voice, experiences and perspectives.
Think of AI as a companion, not a substitute. Let it help you highlight your strengths, not replace them.
We're excited to learn more about who you are, what motivates you, and how you can contribute to our team.
Best of luck in the process - we're looking forward to getting to know the real you!
